چکیده

We have modified the columti-chromatographic technique of Mercer (1) to produce a sensitive and rapid separation of serum CK2 and CK3, even at normal total serum CK activity (3).12 However, CKj was not separated from CK2. Here, we report a modification of our method such that all three CK isoenzymes are separated by stepwise elution from a mini-column of diethylaminoethyl-cellulose. CK1 has only been reported in the serum in the rare condition of malignant hyperpyrexia (4). In most other neurological conditions-such as head injuries, strokes, meningitis, and encephalitis-the increased CK activity in serum has been solely attributable to CK3 elevation (5, 6). We have been unable to test our system on cases of malignant hyperpyrexia, and we therefore chose instead to study the serum CK isoenzyme activity of patients who had undergone neurosurgery of the brain.

Creatine kinase MB isoenzyme studies in diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

Serial measurements of the MB isoenzyme of creatine kinase, total creatine kinase, aspartate mainotransferase, and urea stable lactate dehydrogenase have been made in the serum of a series of 139 patients admitted with a diagnosis of suspected myocardial infarction. Serum MB isoenzyme measurements have also been made on postoperative surgical patients and patients with medical disorders known t...

Regional creatine kinase, adenylate kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase in normal canine brain.

Following acute stroke, creatine kinase and other enzymes are released into the cerebrospinal fluid and blood from injured brain tissue. To determine whether regional differences in brain enzyme activity might exist and therefore affect the amount of enzyme released, we quantified the levels of creatine kinase, adenylate kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase in 12 regions of normal canine brain (n ...

Effect of pentobarbitone sodium on serum creatine kinase of normal and dystrophic hamsters.

1. The dose of pentobarbitone required for anaesthesia was significantly greater for dystrophic hamsters than for normal animals. 2. Serum creatine kinase activity was significantly higher in dystrophic than in normal hamsters. 3. Brain, heart and tibialis anterior muscle from dystrophic animals contained significantly less creatine kinase than the normal tissues. 4. Creatine kinase in normal a...

Brain isoenzyme of creatine kinase. III. Active and inactive forms in dystrophic muscle of vitamin E-dificient rabbit.

Rabbits were fed a vitamin E-deficient diet for 7 weeks. Control rabbits, paired for weight, were pair-fed an identical diet supplemented with vitamin E. After 3 weeks the expermental animals showed a rise in serum creatin kinase activity which was attributable to the muscle isoenzyme (MM). No rise in creatine kinase activity or appearance of MM was noted in the serum of the control rabbits. To...

Increased serum lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme 1 and "flipped" LD-1/LD-2 ratio in myopathy associated with partial carnitine palmitoyltransferase deficiency.

We describe a case of a limb-girdle myopathy presenting with myoglobinuria. A partial deficiency of muscle carnitine palmitoyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.21) may also have been present. All "muscle-type" serum enzymes were markedly increased (to between 30- and 400-fold their respective upper reference limits) and creatine kinase (EC 2.7.3.2) isoenzyme 2 (CK-MB) was increased 130-fold but was still l...
